Titanfall 2 Experiences a Revival Following Unexpected Update
Sep-19-2023
The tale of the Titanfall games is somewhat regrettable. Both Titanfall and Titanfall 2 were highly acclaimed yet consistently underperformed in sales, and no third installment was ever produced. Instead, the spin-off Apex Legends, set in the same universe but with few other similarities, remains the sole survivor of the two original games.
However, unexpectedly, Respawn has recently updated Titanfall 2, a game long thought unplayable due to server issues (primarily PC) and a relatively small player community across all formats. With the issues resolved and a regular playlist update, players have returned in large numbers.
Data from SteamDB revealed that there was a peak of 23,234 concurrent players over the weekend - a figure not far from the peak two years ago of 27,631 concurrent players. Even though we can't get such detailed data for consoles, in our experience, an Xbox match started quickly, suggesting a significant console playerbase.
Despite the resurgent popularity, we caution Titanfall fans from raising their expectations too high about a potential Titanfall 3, as the risk of disappointment is quite high.
